Arson stirs memories of boy’s death from meth-related fire at west side home

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 15, 2014) – Someone intentionally set a west side home on fire Monday morning.

Witnesses saw some kids run away from the home at South Belmont and Washington Street. Indianapolis Fire Department crews were dispatched around 11:15 a.m. and had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

dreydonIn December 2012, the same home went up in flames. Police said Jessica Rogers was cooking meth when several chemicals exploded. Rogers and her ex-boyfriend managed to escape.

Her son, 7-year-old Dreydon, was trapped on the second floor and died. Rogers eventually pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent.

She was sentenced to four years in prison last December.
