UPDATE: Officers Michael Reiger and John Serban were found not guilty in November 2016 following their trial in this case

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 15, 2014) – Two veteran Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers appeared in court Monday after being charged with battery last week.

John Serban and Michael Reiger are accused of beating up a man at a bar in August. According to court documents,the officers knocked the man unconscious after a disagreement and then dragged him across the bar’s parking lot.

It happened at Mikie’s Pub on South Emerson Avenue, 5135 S. Emerson Ave. The officers were off-duty during the incident. Charges against them include battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Both officers are suspended without pay pending termination, and Police Chief Rick Hite wants them fired. They’re scheduled to return to court in December. A trial has been scheduled for Dec. 8.
