BLOOMINGTON (Sept. 20, 2014) – Two men who died in a plane crash near the Monroe County Airport have been identified.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office used dental records to confirm the identities of Russell Kotlarek, 51, Saukville, Wis., and Thomas Saccio, 72, Blounts Creek, N.C.

The plane crashed into a small shed and wooded area on Thursday, Sept. 18. Minutes before the crash, the men radioed air traffic controllers to say that something may be wrong with the aircraft.

A navigation safety inspector said the single-engine aircraft caught fire, badly burning the mens’ bodies. Preliminary results showed both died as a result of trauma from the crash. Toxicology results were pending.
