Avon's Derrick Tennant runs past Westfield defenders for a touchdown in the Orioles' 23-6 win over the Shamrocks.

WESTFIELD – So much for it being just a one-week awakening in Avon. It only took about 10 minutes to figure that out.

Following a somewhat surprising dominating win over Fishers in Week 6 the Orioles reaffirmed themselves as a playoff contender as they defeated Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Westfield 23-6 on Friday night on the road.

With the victory the Orioles remain tied at the top of the conference with the Tigers with a 3-1 record within the division. Fishers won a non-conference game against Tech 28-7 at home Friday night.

Avon wasted no time getting to the lead as they jumped on the host Shamrocks right from the start. Braydan Luce’s interception set up a 36-yard touchdown run by Derrick Tennant-who enjoyed a big night in Westfield. The senior running back would add another touchdown later in the quarter to make it 13-0 Orioles.

Alex Stephan cut through the wind and the rain with a 42-yard field goal attempt that was good by ten yards and put the Orioles up 16-0 after one quarter. Tennant’s third touchdown on the game in the 2nd half put away another impressive victory for Avon.
