Indianapolis man dies after being pulled from retention pond

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 5, 2014) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of an Indianapolis man, who died after being pulled from a retention pond.

The incident happened near the intersection of 38th Street and Riley Avenue.

According to witnesses, Monte Norris, 25,  removed his shoes and then waded into the water just after 1 p.m.

Norris became submerged underwater and never resurfaced.

Indianapolis Fire Department Divers located Norris in the water, and he was transported to Eskenazi Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 2 p.m.

An autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.
