CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 22, 2014) – An Iowa couple welcomed their new baby into the world—but they weren’t prepared at all.

In fact, Misty Beaty didn’t even know she was pregnant.

“I didn’t have the weight gain, didn’t have the nausea, none of the morning sickness that goes along with pregnancy. Nothing,” Beaty told KCRG.

She went to the emergency room Monday because of stomach pain.

“I was stunned. It didn’t even seem real,” she told the TV station.

Most of the shock was due to the father’s medical history. Scott Steele was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer and told he’d probably never become a father.

Yet, there little Briggs was on Monday, weighing seven pounds and 14 ounces. Since mom and dad weren’t prepared for the arrival, they were hustling to get diapers, baby clothes and furniture.

And if this story sounds familiar, another Iowa woman recently gave birth to twins even though she didn’t know she was pregnant.
