INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 24, 2014)-- Detectives are searching for information after two men were found dead inside an SUV on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

The bodies were found in a maroon Chevrolet Suburban around 8 a.m., Friday, along the 3900 block of Southeastern Ave. Jerri Lazaropols called 911. The Suburban was parked outside of the home she is renting.

“My son’s girlfriend took him to work this morning at 6:30 and it was still dark out. An hour later, she came home and instead of just coming in the door she beat on the door and she was screaming ‘there’s a dead body out there,’” Lazaropols said.

Lazaropols said she went outside and noticed someone in the SUV. It was before she realized there were two people in the SUV.

“I didn’t want to get too close to the truck and I could see a guy slumped down in the passenger seat,” Lazaropols said.

Lazaropols said she did not hear anything last night, but other witnesses said they heard what sounded like fireworks.

“I guess my son’s girlfriend woke up. She’s a light sleeper. She woke my son up and she said ‘I think I hear gunshots.’ He said ‘No, it’s probably just fireworks.’ She said ‘No, it’s gunshots.’ So, they went outside on the front porch and looked around and didn’t see anything. They went back into the house and went to bed. They saw the truck parked there, but they assumed somebody was in the bar because the bar was still open,” Lazaropols said.

IMPD is investigating the case. The two men who were in the Chevrolet Suburban have been identified as Cardell Hoston, 33, and Steven Caldwell, 32. People in the neighborhood said this type of crime has never happened.

“Somebody out (was) here talking (and) said that he heard they (weren't) from around here,” Lillie Tedders said.

“I’d like to know what happened –just ease of mind, you know ‘cause it’s scary that people got shot up here right at the end of your street,” Kathy Tedders said.

If anyone has any information, they need to call IMPD.
