Warm air returns to area for the weekend
Enjoy the warmth while it lasts highs should hit the 70s today with the weekend remaining warm. How long will it last? Well I can tell you exactly how long. Monday. A morning cool front will impact the state on Tuesday morning bringing the threat for rain and storms. Temperatures will be significantly lower.
A late season warm-up arrives at the perfect time as the weekend will be nice. It also isn’t too uncommon to see late season warm-ups like this. Now last year was the exception to the rule as the last 70 degree day of the year occurred on October 13th. Besides that though we have seen at least one 70 degree day in the month of November every year since 2008. The latest 70 degree day occurred on November 14, 2011. I also find it interesting we hit 69 degrees on December 3rd, 2012. Besides that we have come nowhere close to hitting 70 degrees after the first two weeks of November.
Highs today are expected to top 70 degrees. I am forecasting a high of 72 today. Sunday won’t be as warm with highs near 70. Monday will be much warmer and while I don’t think it will happen here in Indianapolis we could see some communities hitting 80 degrees in the state. This type of warm weather is fairly rare for this late in the season.
The warm-up this late in the year doesn’t come without a price and that price is the threat of storms for Tuesday morning. At this morning strong wind gusts will be possible along with frequent lightning. The Storm Prediction Center has not included us on their severe weather risk map just yet but it will certainly be a possibility. At this point it appears places to our southeast have a better chance for seeing severe weather.
A cool finish:
Behind the storms temperatures will slide below the seasonal average for this time of the year. We should see highs in the 60s Tuesday through Thursday with highs dipping to the 50s for Friday.
