GREENWOOD, Ind. (November 11, 2014) – It’s a big honor for marching bands: A chance to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. One local marching band will be sending all the members to the famous parade – but that almost didn’t happen.

The Center Grove Marching Band students and staff have been fundraising for months since the four-day trip cost more than $1,200 dollars for each person. Despite their fundraising efforts, it was too much for some students. Eight of the 166 members were going to miss out on the opportunity. But the school’s music director got a surprise visit at his office. A parent told him she and her husband wanted to make up the difference in cost for those students.

“I was just blown away. I said I have to tell you, if you're talking about 8 kids, you're talking about close to 10 thousand dollars, and they said yes, we understand that,” Music Director Kevin Schuessler said.

In return, the couple just wanted to remain anonymous.

We put so much hard work into this and now everyone gets to go, and it's just going to make everyone's experience so much better. It was just amazing that they did that for us. There's not enough words to explain how happy we all are and how thankful we are for them,” Junior band member Nichole Wilson said.

Besides performing in the parade, students will be doing other activities, like visiting the 9-11 memorial and seeing “Wicked” the musical.
