Indiana man dies 6 hours after being put in jail cell

COLUMBIA CITY (Nov. 19, 2014) – An Indiana man died in his jail cell Tuesday, Indiana State Police say.

Kevin J. Minnix, 48, Columbia City, was brought to the Whitley County Jail and put in a holding cell around 2 p.m. More than six hours later, at 8:30 p.m., officers found Minnix unconscious and unresponsive in the cell.

Emergency medical crews tried to revive Minnix for 25 minutes but were unable to save him.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department asked Indiana State Police to investigate Minnix’s death. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
