OLDSMAR, Fla. (Nov. 19, 2014) – Some Florida Walmart shoppers found a major surprise when they went to make layaway payments.

Someone had already picked up the tab. In fact, 55 customers from Oldsmar discovered that their balances—totaling $12,000—had been taken care of, reports FOX 13.

Customers were in disbelief.

“I immediately started to cry. I was like, ‘No way! Someone actually did that for total strangers?'” shopper Lynn Stein told the TV station.

It turns out John Sanders of Jamson Labs & Power Kleen Corporation was behind the good deed. He’d specifically asked the store to pay off the balances of families from Oldsmar.

“Our theory was if people had it on layaway, they were maybe struggling a little bit for the holidays,” Sanders said.

Walmart employees said the reactions ranged from tears to joy. In one case, a woman had come to the store to cancel her layaway because her husband had just lost his job and they couldn’t afford to pay the rest of their balance.
