INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 19. 2014) – A man shot and killed an alleged intruder on the city’s east side Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened in the 7500 block of East 35th Street around 12:45 a.m.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital where he later died. IMPD identified him Thursday as Derrick Nash, 23, Indianapolis.

Detectives believe Nash was forcibly trying to enter the home as part of an attempted robbery when a male occupant of the home fired shots.

Police say the shooter is related to the homeowner who was not home at the time.

No other injuries were reported.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that more people were involved, but have not released any more details. The investigation remains active and police said the man who shot Nash has not been arrested.

This is considered an active investigation and detectives urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Indiana, anonymously, at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).  Callers can also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
