INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 20, 2014) -- A woman was shot while fighting back against a pair of suspected robbers that broke into an east side business.

It happened at a tire shop at the corner of Michigan Street and Sherman Drive. This is the third time in as many days when people fought back against would-be robbers

The suspected gunman who was shot was taken to Eskenazi Health, but his condition isn't known. The woman was awake when she was taken to the hospital. Family says she is the girlfriend of the man who owns the tire shop.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detectives say two men came in and held the people inside at gunpoint. Family members say there were four people inside including the owner, his girlfriend and two others. Standing up against the burglars, police say the woman pulled out a gun and held it up. That's when she, and at least one of the robbers, pulled their triggers and were both shot.

The suspects took off, and one of them was found in the 2500 block of North Parker.

Family members of both the woman and her boyfriend are trying to wrap themselves around why this happened.

"I'm nervous right now, this is a terrible place up here on the east side. And then just to come in here and rob somebody for a little chunk of change it's not worth it," said Michael Manuel, whose cousin owns the tire shop.

Customer Mark Patrick doesn't understand why the place would be a robber's target.

"Not really called for, I mean, I can't see them having that much money," Patrick said.

Police are looking for a second suspect. If you know anything about this, call IMPD or Central Indiana Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
