INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 25, 2014) – Several people in Broad Ripple were without water Tuesday morning because of a water main break.

It happened just south of Broad Ripple High School.  Part of the street has collapsed.  Witnesses told FOX59 that a parked car sunk into the hole in the street, but nobody was in the car and no injuries were reported.

According to Citizens Energy, Compton Street from Broad Ripple Avenue to 61st Street is closed. The utility said water service was restored around 4 p.m. The water main break affected several apartments, a strip mall and Broad Ripple High School.

Water service has been restored.

The utility company blamed the problem on aging infrastructure, stating that particular main had been installed in 1948.
