VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Nov. 26, 2014) – A woman is accused of taking in a lost dog and then trying to sell the pet on Craigslist.

The owner, Josh King, said Nikita, a 3-year-old Siberian husky, escaped from his yard on Saturday morning, reports WTKR.

A friend of King's saw the ad and they contacted the man who found the dog. He gave him Collaren's information.

Hours later, King saw a Craigslist ad listing a Siberian husky for sale. He responded to the ad, pretended to be an interested buyer and agreed to meet Colleran.

Portsmouth police and Chesapeake animal control officers were also there for the exchange. Officers scanned Nikita’s microchip and verified that she belonged to King.

Colleran was charged with obtaining property under false pretenses and was taken to the Chesapeake Correctional Center.
