RECIPES: Turkey Sloppy Joe

INGREDIENTS

2 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 package, 1 1/3 pounds ground turkey breast or lean ground turkey

½ red onion, small dice

½ red bell pepper, small dice

1 Tablespoon grill seasoning (for poultry)

2 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 cup (8 ounce can) tomato sauce

4 sandwich rolls, split

 

DIRECTIONS

Heat the extra-virgin olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly cook the diced onion until soft and translucent – do not brown. Add the ground turkey. As it begins to cook add the chopped bell pepper. Stir together.

In a small bowl whisk together the grill seasoning blend, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and tomato sauce. Pour the sauce over the meat and mix together. Reduce to a simmer and cook mixture for 10 minutes. Adjust seasonings, adding salt and pepper to taste.

Serve the turkey sloppy joe between the split sandwich rolls.
