Winter weather advisories Tuesday update

(Dec. 2, 2014) – A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect for much of central Indiana Tuesday.

The advisory was extended until 1 p.m. A Freezing Rain Advisory was also in effect for counties to the east and southeast of the state.

Drivers encountered several problems throughout their commute Tuesday morning, with icy roads and slick spots leading to crashes and slide offs. At several different points in the morning, I-70 in Putnam County was closed and I-65 near Greenwood saw significant backups and slowdowns.

Areas of sleet, freezing rain and snow flurries affected several areas around central Indiana. Sleet also fell at times, coating roads with ice. Below freezing temperatures made for a dangerous commute.

Clouds will loom over us this morning and for most of the day with limited peeks of sunshine.  This will make for another chilly day with highs in the upper 30s.  Here is your planner:

Drier conditions will build tomorrow with added sunshine, and we should get back into the lower 40s for highs in the city.  Rain showers return by Friday but end early on Saturday.
