SHAANXI PROVINCE, China (Dec. 9, 2014) – A newborn baby survived after being flushed down a toilet in northwest China.

Someone heard the little boy’s cries from a sewer in Suide County, in Shaanxi Pronvice, and called for help, according to the Daily Mail.

The boy survived with only a few scratches and is expected to be fine. Investigators believe the boy’s mother flushed him down shortly after giving birth.

Members of the fire department that helped rescue him have volunteered to take care of him. They’ve nicknamed him Xiaoxiao, which means “teeny tiny.”

Authorities are now looking for the boy’s mother, who could face child abuse and neglect charges if found.
