INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 9, 2014) – A man killed himself Tuesday afternoon after leading police on a chase and crashing his truck on the southwest side of Indianapolis, police say.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration were working on a joint operation and pulled over a white pickup truck allegedly involved in an illegal drug transaction. The suspect initially stopped but then took off as officers approached the vehicles.

The pursuit reached speeds of up to 80 mph before the truck crashed into a tree near Raymond and Lynhurst. The man didn’t get out of the truck. Police said it had tinted windows and they couldn’t see inside.

After that, they heard a gunshot, and found the man dead from a self-inflicted wound. No other occupants were inside the vehicle during the pursuit. No IMPD personnel or agent with the DEA fired any shots.
