INDIANAPOLIS, In (December 13th, 2014) –  Christmas came early to a woman, her 5 year old son and to the officers of the East District.

A woman told IMPD she was at a Speedway Gas Station and  left her car running with her 5 year old son in the back seat.   She forgot to lock it when she went into the business.  That’s when a  male suspect jumped into the car and fled.

A description was given of the vehicle and within 2 minutes of being dispatched, officers had recovered the vehicle but the suspect and child were missing.

Police gave out a physical description of the suspect and he was apprehended five minutes later.  The suspect is identified as Mitchell, Tarver, 26.

Police say Mitchel had pushed the child into the doorway of Rural Inn in the 2700 block of East Michigan Street before he was arrested.

The suspect admitted to taking the vehicle and said he didn’t realize a child was in the vehicle until he dropped of the car.
