Cold air settles in through the new year.
Cooler weather this morning continues to move into the state after we hit 46 degrees on Saturday. Sunday highs will be colder with me thinking that we struggle to hit the mid-30s for highs on the day. Cold air advection will continue to push in colder air with highs likely hitting the lower 30s today. Skies will remain overcast.
Looking ahead Monday highs will be close to where we will see highs today and likely will hit about 34 degrees. Another cold front will arrive overnight from Monday into Tuesday morning reinforcing the cold already in place and clearing out skies. Some light snow may also fall in places northwest of Indianapolis as the cold front slides through.
Some of the coldest weather of the season so far is going to be possible on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The last day of the year (Wednesday) could see single digit temperatures as you’re waking up. New Year’s Day morning lows could fall to the low teens with clear skies. New Year’s Day highs are forecast at this time to hit the mid-30s.
