Inmate stabbed to death at prison in southwest Indiana

CARLISLE (Dec. 29, 2014) – An Indiana inmate died after being stabbed at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.

According to the Indiana Department of Correction, Kango Douglas, 25, was stabbed multiple times in the face, neck and head around noon Friday at the south campus recreation yard near P Housing Unit. He was rushed to Terre Haute Regional Hospital before being taken by helicopter to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis and placed on life support. He died Sunday afternoon.

Indiana State Police and WVCF Internal Affairs investigators have linked a person of interest to the attack, although the offender’s name has not been released. Investigators are looking for a motive behind the attack as well as the murder weapon.

Douglas was serving a 55-year sentence for rape, criminal deviate conduct and burglary in Marion County.

Indiana State Police will coordinate the investigation.
