Car accident causes power outage for over 1500 Lafayette residents

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (December 31, 2014) – A car accident caused a major power outage in Lafayette Wednesday morning.

According to Lafayette Police, at about 12:45 a.m. a car ran into a utility pole near the intersection of 3rd Street and Brown Street.

The accident knocked out the power for over 1,500 Lafayette residents. According to Duke Energy, power is expected to be restored by 7 a.m.

The driver, 26-year-old Dillon Mills, sustained minor injuries.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that alcohol was a factor, and Mills was arrested for OWI.

He is currently being held at the Tippecanoe County Jail.
