Health officials report 36 flu-related deaths in Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 2, 2015)– The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that three dozen Hoosiers have had flu-related deaths this season.
Before last week, 5 deaths had been reported. Out of the 31 deaths reported last week, 29 were people age 65 or older.
The CDC says the flu is now an epidemic, and flu season doesn’t end until March.
Also, this year’s flu shot is proving to be less effective than last year’s – a strain of flu called H3N2 has been growing less responsive to the vaccine.
The best advice, according to doctors: Get a flu shot, wash your hands, cover your cough and stay home when you’re sick.
