Woman, 87, dies in hospital after house fire on east side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 7, 2015)– Firefighters rescued a woman from her burning home on the city’s east side Wednesday night before she passed away at the hospital.

The fire occurred in the 3000 block of North Emerson avenue.

The woman has been identified as Ruth Macklin, 87.  She was pronounced deceased at Eskenazi Hospital at 7:11 pm.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Macklin was brought out of the house to awaiting medics and went into cardiac arrest.

Neighbors reported the fire to 911 after heavy smoke and flames pushed from the front room.  The woman’s son was on scene and said she had rented the home for approximately 6 years.
