HOWARD COUNTY, Indiana — Police in Howard County are investigating an apparent murder suicide after a double shooting in a Russiaville home.

Dispatchers say Monica Newlin called police from her home just before 8 p.m., to report that her husband Anthony Newlin was upset and had locked himself in the bedroom with a gun. She said Anthony was despondent over the recent death of his mother. As dispatchers continued speaking with Monica and deputies were on their way to the home, Anthony came out of the bedroom. That’s when contact between Monica and dispatchers was lost.

Deputies arrived to find both Newlins inside the home, suffering from gunshot wounds. Anthony was pronounced dead at the scene. Monica was rushed to Howard Community Hospital, where she died a short time later.

Police are still investigating the shooting, but believe it to be a murder-suicide.
