INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 10, 2014) -- It's that time of year! The Girl Scouts are kicking off their cookie program Saturday, January 10th. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is an important part of the group's financial literacy initiative and helps the girls develop five important skills that will help with a successful career, including goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
"The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls how to run their own business," says Deborah Hearn Smith, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. "They write marketing plans, create budgets, and set goals, while having fun with their friends. Then they use their proceeds to do community service projects and participate in hands-on activities including science and technology."
Locally, the famous cookies come in eight varieties this year - that's including two of the brand new flavors just introduced: Rah-Rah Raisins and Toffee-tastic are joining the lineup of Do-si-dos, Samoas, Savannah Smiles, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, and Trefoils. (Also introduced this year were Trios, but they are not available in this market.
