INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 12, 2015)— Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at a near north side business Monday night.

The injured male was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday, police identified him as Carlos Brookins, 34, Indianapolis.

Investigators later discovered that the person who was shot entered the business armed wearing a mask, and demanded money from the store employee behind the cash register.

The employee complied with the armed man's requests. As the man was leaving the store, the employee attempted to call 911, but the armed suspect re-entered the store.

As he approached the employee at the register, another store employee drew his weapon and shot the suspect.

The suspect was the only person injured in the incident, and there were no customers inside the store at the time, said police.

This is still an active investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477) or the IMPD Homicide office at (317) 327-3475.
