West side accident knocks out power for hundreds of residents

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 26, 2015) – Over 400 people finally have their power restored on the city’s west side after an accident caused major outages Sunday night. At about 11:15 p.m. a car ran into a pole in the near the intersection W 10th St and N Raceway Rd.

The impact caused the power pole to emit flames so large that it could be seen from the interstate.

The driver was slow to get out of the car, but he didn’t have any serious injuries. He was transported to IU West. Additionally, a man who lived in the area tried to help the car accident victim, but in the process he slipped and fell on his back. He, also, had to be transported.

For five hours, 402 IPL customers were without power due to this incident. Power was full restored to the area shortly after 4 a.m.
