COLUMBUS, Ind. (Feb. 2, 2014) - A high school basketball player is recovering from a car crash after he was seriously injured.

Josh Speidel, 18, was extricated from the car he was driving yesterday. The passenger of his car, as well as the people who were in the other car, were okay.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. Sunday night, authorities said a Chevy was driving south on US 31. It had gotten off I-65 when Josh and his passenger were getting onto US 31 in front of a Speedway and the two cars crashed.

"He knows that everyone is here for him. We're staying Josh strong. He knows everyone is thinking about him and we're all here for him," his friend Devin Mann said.

Speidel plays basketball for the Columbus North High School team. People said his talent is undeniable. After his senior year, Speidel plans to play basketball for the University of Vermont on a scholarship.

"He's a superstar in my eyes. I'm so proud of him. He's doing great (things), hoping he can keep it up," his friend Devin Mann said.

Speidel's basketball coach, Jason Speer, said his family is thankful for the support they have received, during this difficult time.

Tomorrow the varsity basketball team plays a home game at 7:30. Before the home game, there will be a dinner in the cafeteria of the high school. The dinner is at 5 p.m. and it is $5. The proceeds will go toward Speidel's medical expenses. School staff members are working on other ways to raise money.

"He's always there for me. I'm always there for him. He's just a great guy. I'd do anything for him," Mann said.
