CLERMONT, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2015) – Some Florida church members are having trouble understanding a disturbing message left behind at their place of worship.

A woman working at Real Life Christian Church in Clermont, Fla., found a dead cat on a cross and two different Bible verses.

“Thou shalt not make my father’s house a den of thieves. Read Matthew 7:3, you hypocrites,” the message said.

The woman took pictures, got rid of the cat and cross and then called police.

“It’s just crazy. It’s just crazy. If you don’t want to go to church, don’t go. No one is telling you to go there,” said Victor Lopez Jr., who lives near the church.

The church issued the following statement following the bizarre incident:

“We are truly saddened by this inhumane act against one of God’s creatures. While we have no idea what would prompt someone to do something like this, we are praying for them and for those affected by it.”

“With the anti-religious movement that’s going on today, you know, people just do not like Christ. When you mention Jesus, you know, people get offended,” said Lopez. “Unfortunately, we’ve got some fools who live in this world. That’s all I can say. They’re fools and hopefully they repent before their time is up.”
