One person dead in west side apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 5, 2015)– Firefighters responded to a fire Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m.

Smoke was seen on the second story of an apartment building at Addison Creek (Formerly Port-O-Call Apartments) off of Rockville Road on the west side of Indianapolis.

A man was trapped in an upstairs apartment when crews got to the scene. The man was removed from the building and transported to Eskenazi Health in serious condition. He later died from his injuries.

Two other people were checked for injuries and released at the scene.

The fire was under control within 15 minutes. A fire hydrant was frozen, but did not cause issues for fire crews.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but investigators are on the scene.

Fire and smoke damage was mostly contained to the upstairs apartment. An adjacent apartment suffered some smoke damage. Four apartments in total were evacuated.

Fire damage is estimated at $30,000.
