COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (Feb. 10, 2015) – A North Carolina mother is accused of using her 4-year-old son to smuggle marijuana to her incarcerated boyfriend.

Jenifer Lynn Patterson, 24, was charged with providing drugs to an inmate, reports WECT. Investigators said surveillance video showed her trying to smuggle the pot by hiding it in her son’s pants.

It happened Sunday at the Columbus Correctional Institution, where she’d taken her two children to visit her boyfriend, Cody Lambert, 24.

Patterson told Lambert the drugs were in the boy’s pants pockets. While she took her other child to the restroom, Lambert retrieved the pot from the young child’s pocket. He was serving time for possessing a firearm as a felon and other charges.

Both children were turned over to the Department of Social Services.
