Police investigating death on city’s east side after man found burned inside van

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 15, 2015) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after a person was found dead in the 3600 block of East 30th Street.

Police got a call around 2:30 p.m. Sunday about a body found burned inside a vehicle in an alley.

The caller said a van in the alley behind his location had fire damage to the passenger side and there was an unresponsive man inside.

When officers arrived, they found the adult male unresponsive and he was later pronounced deceased on scene.

Homicide investigators are currently investigating with the Arson Unit to determine if the fire was accidental.

Officials are unsure if the man’s death was accident or deliberate.

The Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy later this week.
