INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 24, 2015)-- A central Indiana mom is outraged after what her 9-year-old daughter saw on a computer screen at the public library. The mom asked FOX59 only to identify her as Ellen. Ellen says she took her daughter to the Wayne Branch public library Monday after school to work on a book report.

The two were in the children’s section of the library when her daughter tried telling her something.

“She whispered something. I couldn’t understand the whispers; it was something about a guy and a butt.  That’s all I heard at that time,” explains Ellen.

When Ellen and her daughter left the children’s section that’s when the third grader spoke up.

“She was like, ‘Mommy, that was so disgusting’ and I’m like 'what, hunny?’ and that’s when she told me she saw a guy looking at porn on the computer, wasn’t her words because she doesn’t know what that is,” explains Ellen.

Ellen says her daughter described it in detail and that’s when she told the librarian.

“(I was) very, very mad and irritated. You aren’t supposed to know anything about that. Boys are still supposed to be yucky,” says Ellen.

The library staff told us an employee talked with the man who ended up leaving.  The library staff says when they got to the computer there was nothing on the screen.  Before a patron is able to get online they are required to read over and accept a list of policies, which specifically doesn’t allow “accessing or loading pornographic, obscene or sexually explicit material.”

If a patron breaks a rule, depending on the offense the library can kick the patron out or ban them.  FOX59 asked if this man has been banned.  They told us no.  Ellen feels he should be.

“It is very disturbing. A library is supposed to be a safe place, especially in the kids section,” says Ellen.

IMPD told FOX59 the man didn’t break any laws by going to these sites.  If the man would’ve exposed himself, then he would’ve been breaking the law.
