INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 5, 2015) – A pedestrian was struck and killed on the city’s east side Thursday morning.

The accident happened at about 5:35 a.m. at the intersection of South Kitley Avenue and Brookville Road. Investigators identified the victim as Bruce Wigell, 32, Indianapolis. He was crossing the street when a truck hit him. Police said Wigell was wearing dark clothing and had his hood up. He was also wearing earbuds, investigators said.

“(The victim) briefly stopped in the middle of the road, we’re guessing to check oncoming cars,” said Lt. Richard Riddle with IMPD. "The witness vehicle stopped because they observed the individual standing in the road, the pedestrian then began to walk southbound into the lane and was struck.”

The driver remained at the scene as Indianapolis Metropolitan police investigated the crash. Police said the crash appeared to be accidental and didn't anticipate criminal charges in the case. The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital for a blood draw, which is standard procedure.
