Police identify man fatally shot during domestic dispute in Speedway

SPEEDWAY (March 5, 2015) – Speedway police identified a man fatally shot while barging into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend early Wednesday morning.

He was identified as Anthony Santura Smith, 34. Investigators said his last known address was in the 3300 block of Patton Drive in Indianapolis, although he hadn’t lived in Indiana for very long. He was originally from Virginia, police said.

On Wednesday, a woman called 911 around 4:20 a.m. saying her ex-boyfriend was beating on her front door. She told dispatchers she had a gun and feared for her life. It happened at an apartment in the 5800 block of West 25th Street.

The woman fired a single shot that hit Smith in the head, killing him. According to police, the couple had a history of domestic violence. Officers had responded to calls at the apartment on multiple occasions.

Two children were inside the apartment during the dispute. They were not hurt.
