INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 8, 2015) — A family is out of their home after a fire, possibly started by a child, broke out Sunday morning.

Indianapolis Fire crews were called to the 5400 block of Pecos Court around 9:45 Sunday morning for a house fire.

Crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home on the far south east side when they arrived.

Fire officials say a woman living in the house said she believed a child in the home had been playing with a lighter and that’s what started the fire.

One firefighter was hit on head and went to a clinic to be checked out but is expected to be okay, but no one else was injured in the fire.

The family’s pet, a Terrier Pub Mix, ran out of the home and is unaccounted for.
