RV fire sets off ammunition near downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (March 18, 2015) – A fire near downtown Indianapolis set off ammunition Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out near a garage in the 600 block of Marion Avenue. Ammunition was reportedly going off inside an RV. Fire crews were called to the scene.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department a man was renovating the RV when he stepped away for a few minutes. He came back to find the vehicle on fire. It quickly spread to the garage, and the man called 911 to report the fire and let crews know there was ammunition inside. IFD crews quickly put the fire out.

The RV was a total loss while the garage was heavily damaged.
