FISHERS, Ind. (March 3, 2015)— Crews with the Fishers Fire Department responded to a large trash fire on a residential street Monday morning.

Firefighters responded around 9 a.m. to the 10000 block of Greenway Drive, where they found a load of trash on fire. Officials said the driver of the garbage truck dumped the load after noticing smoke coming from the trash compartment.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but officials said extensive work had to be done to pull the trash apart and put out all the hot spots.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. However, officials said the likely source could be fireplace ashes or cigarette butts still smoldering. Firefighters urge residents to make sure all ashes and smoking materials are extinguished prior to disposal.
