Woman killed, man in critical condition after east side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 26, 2015)– Police say two people were shot Thursday night on the east side of Indianapolis. One victim died as a result of the shooting. The other victim is in critical condition.

The shooting was reported in the 2100 block of North Arlington Avenue near East 21st Street around 8:30 p.m. Officers found a man who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Eskenazi Health in critical condition.

A female victim arrived at Community East Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. She died shortly after.

Investigators believe the woman intended to purchase narcotics from the man. Both were allegedly armed and began firing shots at each other.

A person of interest is in custody.
