(April 9, 2015) – The next big thing from Taco Bell may just be home delivery.
The fast-food chain known for its Doritos Locos Tacos and late-night food runs wants to bring its full array of tacos and burritos right to your door, according to CEO Brian Niccol. He couldn’t provide many details on the planned service, but he told Nation’s Restaurant News that delivery was a top request among Taco Bell customers.
”Even though it’s the No. 1 request from consumers, we have to make sure we can give them an experience that’s consistent with Taco Bell, and that’s what we’re working through,” he said. “We have to figure it out, and I can tell you right now we don’t have it figured out.”
Niccol expects delivery to be tested late in the year.
That’s not the only big change on the horizon. Taco Bell is also rethinking the size of its restaurants and where to put them:
Taco Bell will also open new units in shipping containers, restaurants with open kitchens, and units with a smaller footprint designed for urban locations. The new restaurants and packaging will be more environmentally friendly, and the chain is also looking at ways to become more transparent about food, including a possible switch to meat raised without antibiotics or hormones.
Niccol said Taco Bell will continue efforts to innovate for breakfast. It recently launched the biscuit taco and plans to roll out something called “Cap’n Crunch Delights” later this year.
