Four people hurt after grain elevator explosion in northern Indiana

LAPORTE COUNTY (April 16, 2015) – Four people were injured after an explosion at a grain elevator in LaPorte County.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in LaCrosse, Ind., along with LaPorte County EMS and several area fire departments. According to investigators, the explosion at the 175-foot-tall grain elevator resulted in significant structural damage.

The sheriff’s office said four people were hurt, describing the injuries as “not serious” and consisting “mostly of burns.”

A medical helicopter took at least one patient to an area hospital.

The grain elevator belongs to an agribusiness called Co-Alliance LLP, which describes itself as “a partnership of five co-ops in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio.”
