INDIANAPOLIS (April 29, 2015) – The lead defendant in the Richmond Hill house explosion will appear in a Marion County courtroom Wednesday.

Mark Leonard is charged with masterminding the explosion of a south side home in November 2012 that killed two people and caused $4 million in damages.

St. Joseph Superior Judge John Marnocha will conduct a preliminary hearing in Indianapolis at 9 a.m. Leonard’s case has been moved to South Bend, with jury selection scheduled for June 4. After the last hearing, Marnocha turned back the prosecution’s attempt to use statements made by Bob Leonard, the accused triggerman in the blast, against his stepbrother.

The judge did allow evidence that Mark Leonard tried to kill a witness by contacting a hit man while inside the Marion County Jail.

Leonard’s defense team unsuccessfully tried to work out a deal in which he would plead guilty to reckless homicide charges.
