INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 29, 2015) — The month of May is an exciting time for Hoosiers with many events leading up to the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500. On Wednesday afternoon, the public is invited to kick off the month with a celebration downtown on the circle.

The nonprofit “500 Festival” is behind about 50 events throughout the month. The organization has been running for 58 years, but this is the first time their team will host a May kickoff party.

Anyone is welcome to come to the circle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate with about 25 pace cars and several food trucks. A special guest will help kick-off the festivities… literally. Pat McAfee will kick a football down Meridian over the cars.

“I discussed it with Pat and asked, ‘Are we going off a tee?’ And he said ‘Well, otherwise it would be a punt into May,’ so we’re definitely going to be kicking it off,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival.

There are many events planned in May, starting with the mini-marathon expo and race. Organizers say runners can still sign-up by clicking here.

After the mini, there’s Kids Day, Breakfast at the Brickyard, the parade and many more events. For a full list, click here.
