GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 1, 2015)– The City of Greenwood launched their new bike sharing program on Friday, May 1.

The program, officially called Bike It, offers eight bikes for rent outside the Community Center, located at 100 Surina Way. A second rental location will be available at the Freedom Springs Aquatics Center which is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 23.

Rob Taggart, the Director of Parks & Recreation, says the program is funded by a $3,912 grant with the Johnson County Community Foundation. The city partnered with Bicycle Garage Indy, which provided the Townie 3i bikes and maintenance services.

For people who are both members of the Community Center and residents of Greenwood, bike rentals cost $1 for 30 minutes or less, $4 for half a day, and $7 for a full day. Residents of Greenwood who are not members of the Community Center pay $2 for 30 minutes or less, $5 for half a day, and $8 for a full day.
Non-resident fees are $3 for 30 minutes or less, $6 for half a day, and $9 for a full day.

Information about becoming a member of the Community Center is available here.

A similar bike sharing program launched in Carmel two weeks ago. In Indianapolis, the Pacers Bikeshare program recently celebrated their one year anniversary.
