CLINTON COUNTY (May 4, 2015) – Police arrested two men who ran from the scene of a weekend crash in Clinton County that left a child dead.

According to Clinton County Sheriff Deputy Chief Joe Mink, the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of County Road 0 and County Road 200 West. Police said Victor Valencia, 30, Frankfort, failed to stop at a stop sign and slammed into a car driven by Cristobal De La Rosa, 35, Frankfort.

The force of the impact threw De La Rosa’s car into a nearby fence; Valencia’s truck rolled over. A Good Samaritan stopped to help, Mink said, but Victor Valencia stole their car and drove off. Police caught up with him later. His passenger, Francisco Valencia, 29, also ran away from the scene before police arrested him.

Police said a child in De La Rosa’s car died after the crash. De La Rosa was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Both men were taken to the Clinton County Jail on a preliminary charge of resisting arrest. Investigators suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.
