HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (May 8, 2015) – A Walton man is accused of photographing and filming women in tanning salons.

37-year-old Ryan McCabe was arrested on charges of 12 counts voyeurism and one count of child exploitation.

Back in March, a 17-year-old girl reported that she believed she saw someone filming her as she undressed before getting into the tanning bed.  Shortly after the Logansport’s girl’s claim, investigators narrowed in on McCabe.

Investigators say they found “an extensive video image collection” on several of McCabe’s electronic devices.

“It appears he has some sort of problem especially when it comes to trying to record video of people,” explains Sgt. Tony Slocum, with the Indiana State Patrol.

According to court documents, investigators found hundreds of pictures and videos “several of the images depict a nude, unidentified female victim lying in a tanning bed with the lid partially open.”

Court papers reveal McCabe visited more than one tanning salon on the same day.  He was a member at several salons including Sun Tan City and Malibu Tanning, which are both in Kokomo. Investigators found 42 images from Malibu Tanning. Some of the images were taken under a closed door, most were from near the ceiling.

“In the state of Indiana if you are trying to take pictures and/or record someone in a place where they are expected to be undressed that is a felony in our state,” explains Sgt. Slocum.

Investigators caught McCabe doing the same thing at tanning salons in Cass and Miami counties.

“In the case in Miami County, it appears he tried to record through a small hole in the wall into an adjacent tanning booth.  The hole he was trying to record through is where an electrical cord would go through so the hole was real small,” explains Sgt. Slocum.

It also appears McCabe was going to the tanning bed for the sole purpose of recording naked women.  Court papers note, “McCabe is light-skinned and is not ever seen in any of his videos or images as actually getting into a tanning bed.  A large majority of his visits are for the maximum amount of time, which is 20 minutes.”

This is an ongoing investigation.
