Indianapolis (May 19,2015)- There are still a couple of weeks left in this school year for many students across central Indiana, but already the focus is shifting to the next academic year.
Indianapolis Public Schools begin kindergarten registration Tuesday evening and the district is making the process easier than ever before.
In the past parents had to register their child for school in-person.
This year IPS parents can complete the majority of the registration process online.
The registration window at myips.org opens at 5:30 pm Tuesday and it will remain open until the start of the next school year.
Parents who want their child to attend one of the district’s magnet schools will have to fill out a separate application exclusive to that school.
If applicants encounter any problems while trying register, they should call the IPS service center (317) 226-4000.
The district hopes families enjoy the convenience of registering for kindergarten online.
“So many people just do everything online today, whether it’s from your smart phone or your tablet or your computer at home, it’s the way people are getting information across and they’re sharing information with each other and we want to make our services as easy as possible for all of our families to access,” said Kristen Cutler, IPS spokesperson.
To speed up the registration process be sure to have these items:
- Proof of Residency
- Birth Certificate
- Immunization Record
- Parent/Guardian Photo ID
IPS staff will be available to assist parents with the new online registration process Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30 at the Indianapolis Public Library Haughville branch.
