INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 20, 2015)-- ExpoDesign has been working on floats for the IPL 500 Festival Parade for weeks. Now the pressure is on to replace the Children's Museum float in just three days after the original was caught on fire.
"It will be a massive conversion that will take place during tomorrow, tomorrow night, Friday we may have people spend the night," said ExpoDesign general manager Matt Lafary.
The design team will use an old float to morph it into a Hot Wheels design for the museum.
"Of course everyone was shook up that day but we dusted off and put our heads together," said Lafary.
Despite challenges the show must go on Saturday afternoon. And spectators will get to see the 500 Festival's team work pay off.
"There's estimated to be as many as 300,000 people in attendance so we've gotta be really one of the best parades in the country," said 500 Festival CEO Bob Bryant.
For the first year, the parade will actually come to a complete stop on Monument Circle for a celebration honoring this year's Grand Marshals. The 1955 Crispus Attucks men's basketball team will be recognized as the first all black team to win a state championship. The team never had their big celebration on the circle.
With the large crowd expected, you will want to map our your plans ahead of time.
You can line the parade route for free or you can purchase a ticket to guarantee you have a seat along the route.
The parade will take off from Pennsylvania and North Streets, head down Washington and end with a trek along Meridian.
